Ten Reasons For Marketers to Read Marketing Blogs

As marketers, we are always being encouraged to write our own blogs but we much less often get the advice to read blogs to. Why should we read blogs? Here are ten reasons I can think of off the top of my head.

1. Spy on the opposition. If you want to know what your competitors are saying and doing, then their blog is the best place to look.
2. Get inspiration. Blogs are just one of the places to look for inspiration for your own blog or website content.
3. Keep up to date. Log onto a news blog or a known leader in your particular field and be sure to find the latest information.
4. Improve your skills. Find blogs that teach you how to do things better: tips on writing, using software, extra marketing skills and much more.
5. Get information. Whether you are new to your niche or a seasoned campaigner, marketing blogs can help you widen and deepen your knowledge.
6. Find new stuff. Look for blogs that introduce new widgets and online tools. Find the latest social media sites.
7. Follow trends and find new niches. Niches never stand still. As a subject becomes ore popular, smaller niches appear within the larger one.
8. Post comments. Get your name known, expand and work your network. Add your main URL to your signature and hope for traffic.
9. Look at their style and presentation. Would it work for you? Hat makes you read and interact with a blog? Take the best and leave the rest.
10. Look for links. If theirs is a complimentary blog (but not a direct competitor) link to them, ping them and look for return links.
